Open Sesame!

40 years ago, Jim Henson and a bunch of other wizards from the Children's Television Workshop created one of the best teaching television shows the world has ever known. Now, with a new generation going through and soon-to-be grandchildren of the first generation of Sesame Street children to start watching. The show's purpose was to help out poor children to get them ready for school. It worked for all children. Something to think about when people say we have to protect children from television. This show, this tool, this world, opened up many children's minds to get prepared for life. To the creators, characters, and actors, thank you!

One of the first children of Sesame Street.

Remembering a Night

20 years ago, 1989, Berlin, Germany. As a young second lieutenant, I saw the beginning of the end of the Soviet Union. It did not come from governments but with a crowd of people tearing down one of the most hated symbols of the two Germanys. Yes, I was there the night the Berlin wall ceased to serve its purpose. Since that time, the Soviet Union collapsed and with it, the Warsaw Pact. I look back now twenty years later and it's still hard for me to believe that we were so close to utter stupidity and yet, even now, all you have to look to other areas and the same arrogance still exists. I wish for all to also remember the men and women who served so there was not war but an uneasy peace. The Cold War lasted for so long but it's already forgotten by most. To my fellow Cold War veterans, thank you, we all won.

Not another straw
To my dear friends the following is a rant. Please do not click under the cut I needed to blow off stream. If you would like to read it you have been warned
Today I had a surprise at work. The schedule that had been a mess was worse. My DNS had hired two girls who could only work 6am to 1pm in my dept. I was now to pick up their unfinished hour of work and now work 11am to 7pm , seven days a week without overtime. I was told that I need to do this since they have other full time jobs and need the help. I was then told that I am now on a work four on two off work shift. That I can handle. This afternoon I was told that I must do all the extra duties in my dept. for the girls since they are unable to do the work. Later I was told that I now have a different work shift and today was my day off. Wait it gets better, I was now in violation of our work rules. I was to be written up for padding my hours. When I explained that no one informed me of this new shift until now. I was told that their was a meeting yesterday and all were told. I explained that yesterday was my day off and no one had contacted me. The RCM stated that I should have known and they don't have to tell me. At 6 pm I received a phone call from my staffing person who told me that I now have tomorrow off. I asked her who was going to do the list of extra duties that I was given for friday? I am back on the schedule.
On monday One of the nurses plowed her car in to mine causing 1800 to 2800 in damage. She is going to pay for the repair but I will be without a car while it is being repaired.

My Life Update

For those who know my situation for the last few months this is my check in update.
Well my work has changed for the better, I think. I am now back to working full time after being cut to 19 hrs a week. This is a step in the right direction but, it is to late for the havoc it caused. Our cat Saasy is very sick and we are giving her hospice care. I now can say goodbye and not feel as bad if I had the vet put her down. She is still eatting, purring, and being by the fire. We have pain meds for her. So she is not in pain and can enjoy our time left. Yes, it is hard on us and me. I was remembering when I had a migraine and Sassy can in to check on me. She very carefully can up to me ,sniffed, and then laid on my forehead and eyes. The combination of her soft fur ,body heat, and her purr soothed me and wasgreat comfort. As for my Norwescon duty I am getting on the ball a bit late but moving. I hope to be finished by 13 March 09. I hope to get it together soon.

That's all for now

Warning Major RANT BLAST AREA!!!!!!!!!

This is your only warning!! DO NOT PROCEED!!!!!

Today, my FIL had a heart-related and/or brain-related episode. For those of you who have been tuned into this soap opera, fill in your own comments at this point. I thought it would be a good time to wash the bed linens in his room that he's been on for the last 13 weeks. I see similar things when I'm at work. A little soap, Oxyclean, and lots of hot water will get it clean. Linens came out nice.

It's the other stuff that I found that is causing me to lose my lunch. Where to begin..... Between the mattresses, I found articles of clothes in various stages of soilage. On HER side of the bed, used toilet paper wads under the bed, by the bed, and in the bed, with the perfume of human urine coming from the floor, decorated with impressions of BM tracked from the bathroom to the bed and out the door to the hallway. On HIS side, over 20 beer cans, some empty, some not, in and on the night stand and in the garbage can. The smell of stale beer coming from the floor and the mattress. I will not describe the grease stains that I found on the pillow and the wall.

I went to the window to get some fresh air. I couldn't touch it for the mold growing on the windowsill, on the frame and glass. My comments of what I had found reached my wife. We then did a tour of his bedroom and bathroom noting in detail of what had become of our two months of hard work to get this place habitable. In 13 weeks, they have made it worse than when we came in. I cleaned the glass, the frame and the windowsill with cleaner and vinegar and saw that items we left below the window had mold growing on them. We're taking care of them. I grabbed the towels from the bathroom and the floor of their room to give them a wash, since they used them as toilet paper and then hung them back up. We are leaving the rest as we found it, to show them, the Resident Manager, and HER family, the ability of these two to take care of themselves. The control of this experiment is OUR room which doesn't have any of this.

The kicker I get from both of them, is that they don't see or smell anything wrong. One of FIL's is "All it needs is a quick sweep." No, what it needs is a combination of diesel fuel, gasoline and a road flare! As for the smell, the cats' litter boxes are a better aroma! I would rather do a line of used kitty litter then to go into that room ever again! We have sprayed Febreze over most of the area to kill the odor and left the door open to let the air circulate. If the cats happen to relieve themselves in the room, I won't be able to tell. As most of my of my friends know, I don't have much of a sense of smell. That is how bad it is.

I TOLD YOU!!!!

Then hired an Admin who single handedly ruined the last place she managed. She has been here to help us for a month and has either fired or driven away most of the good workers.
As some people know, my father in law and his girlfriend have moved in with us. This was until her house repairs were done. 12 Aug they moved in.Today marks seven weeks they have taken over our place. No contractor has been hired. The money for the repairs spent on their comforts. My Father-in-law has re-fied his condo to pay for the repairs. It will take at least 4-5 weeks for the repair work to get done and at least another week before any work can begin. Now the fat ass is talking about staying, period.

Legalize pre-hospice euthanasia now!!!!!!!!!

Rant alert V.5

Well the crap is hitting the fan. My corporate higher up has now made us not in state compliance . This means the state will not pay them for any patient care until the standards are met. Mean while She just deleted several positions and staff. to increase profits. I am now at 24 hours a week and still must do my 45 hours of work or else! By the way my facility is not getting paid it's full budget until we met her standards. This @&*%! is trying to get us closed down . The corporation has less than a year left on it's contract with us. They are strip mining everything of value from the building. They say they are staying but why are they taking all the working gear and leaving crap!!!!
Thank you for your patience.

I was told that My hours had to be cut because my scheadule didn't fit the new idea for workers. I must cut my hours to less than 28 hours a week. Work only when called to for only the time allowed and still complete all my responsiblities. I just was called by work and was asked why did I come in today. I was told that I needed to talk to my supervisor yesterday and find out what days I was to loose. It was his day off and I was told to come in and work today. Now I am suspended for not following the new posted work scheadule it was posted and noon today
